"ok, I don’t even remember talking to you after Year Eight so whatever you think I did was probably someone else.”

Heather and Carla haven’t seen each other since school. Their lives have taken very different paths. And yet, here they are in a café having tea and making awkward conversation. That is, until Heather presents Carla with a bag of cash and an unexpected proposition…

This challenging, enjoyably nasty thriller, laced with dark humour, is full of twists, and is a perfect fit for the Barn Studio.

It has a cast of just two female actors, probably in their mid-30s, who look as though they might have been at school together 15 or 20 years ago.

It runs for 90 minutes, with no interval, and I’m aiming for a claustrophobic in-the-round staging with virtually no set, relying on just the lighting, sound and the two actors to bring this wonderful script to life.

The characters are, on the surface, very different, one leading a hand-to-mouth existence, pregnant with her fifth child, the other affluent, successful and childless. But both

women are intelligent and resourceful, complicated and damaged, likeable and unlikeable. Roles like this don’t come along very often. It’s fascinating to watch the power shift constantly between the two as they fence and feint around each other with hope, threat and awkwardness.

“Look at you pretending. As if thirty grand isn’t something you’re desperate for.”

Scripts are available from me at

Do get in touch if you’re interested. I intend to cast the play and meet for a read-through in July, with rehearsals starting in late August or early September.
